It is no surprise that we needed a new track. Our old one had potholes and was close to being a hazard to anyone who was running on it. So at the beginning of the year, mostly everyone was not surprised when they started to tear the top layer of the track off. The final cost of the track remodel is being fully funded by the KCS. Not only does Track and Field use it, but the P.E. and regular ed classes, and the community all utilize the track. The track is made up of pieces of rubber. The company that made the track is Baseline Construction which is the only company that revitalizes tracks in the southeastern United States. They are done laying and partially painting the track. They are close to painting the exchange zones for the 4x100. Coach Clark wants to have the ability to host 3, possibly 4, track meets this season. One of the big meets coming is the Battle of Emory Road. We were supposed to host it last year, but they found our track was too dangerous to use and it got moved to Halls. Everyone who has stepped on the track said it was very soft compared to the old one which felt like you were running on concrete. When the football field was put in it looked out of place to have a new field and still have a track that looked like it had been around for a while. Once the track is completely finished our stadium will be one that others will be jealous of.
