On September 29th, Hurricane Helene said her farewell and finally ceased her destruction. Yet, the damage she left in her wake will leave lasting devastation for years to come. The lives of the people in North Carolina are forever changed. Their homes, their businesses, their families—and for some, their own lives—are gone, buried beneath the mud and rubble. And what has the government done to aid these victims? What have they done to lend a hand to these struggling American citizens? Shockingly, almost nothing. Little to no efforts have been made to reach out and support the survivors.
On September 30th, nearly 4 days after the start of the disaster, many people in the damaged areas were shocked by the absence of assistance from the government. A woman in Asheville told an NBC reporter that she hasn’t seen any support from FEMA or other programs and that she has zero faith that the government will send any aid.
Woman: “Nobody’s gonna help us. I mean, I don’t know what we’re gonna do.”
Reporter: “Do you have any faith in the federal response here?”
Woman:“No. No.”
As of October 1st, the Biden Administration had offered zero real support to the victims in Florida, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia. According to the White House, “financial aid” is practically the only “help” being offered.
“FEMA assistance in Florida, North Carolina, and South Carolina may include a one-time $750 payment to help with essential items like food, water, baby formula and other emergency supplies. After registering for disaster assistance, individuals may also qualify to receive disaster-related financial assistance to repair storm-related damage to homes and replace personal property, as well as assistance to find a temporary place to stay.”

On September 30th, allegations rose about candidate and current VP Kamala Harris. She posted a “candid” picture [See Above] of her seemingly working to help those affected by Helene. Even if the photo wasn’t staged, did she think she was helping by... filling out paperwork and listening to music? In her private jet? Her actions reveal how deceitful and out-of-touch politicians are in today's society. With the current death count estimated at 150, the government should be doing far more than they are instead of putting up facades to waive people in their favor.
