Autism Is A Daily Challenge

By Adam Beeler

As somebody who has autism, I decided that this would be a great thing to cover especially considering how many people are diagnosed with the disorder. What is autism? The website www.autismspeaks.org defines it as, “Autism, or autism spectrum disorder (ASD), refers to a broad range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech, and nonverbal communication. According to the Centers for Disease Control, autism affects an estimated 1 in 36 children and 1 in 45 adults in the United States today.”

There are many risk factors that could lead to autism:

Autism has many different signs and affects each person differently. To save you time I'll state my problems: constant shaking, anti-social, being less intelligent than others, looking around the room for no reason, making random noises, and my least favorite part is that I get less sleep than the average person. I deal with all of those daily. There are more signs and symptoms that autistic people can get and it's sad watching them try to function throughout the day. Unfortunately, I see some of them bullied and picked on, a tragic reality.
