After a Walmart employee went missing from the floor, another employee found her burned alive in the walk-in oven of the store's bakery. This Walmart employee was 19-year-old Gursimran Kaur, and the employee who found her was her mother, who worked alongside her. In Halifax, Canada, on Saturday, October 19th, Gursimran was meant to clean the bakery’s industrial walk-in oven when she got trapped inside.
Halifax Regional Police were called at around 9:30 pm that evening and confirmed the devastating news of her death. The store was evacuated and is closed for further investigation. Questions have been raised about the incident after word spread around TikTok and other Walmart employees from different stores came out with information about the same ovens in their stores.
Employees said that the ovens do not automatically close and lock, they also noted an emergency open button can be found inside. People are starting to question how she could have possibly gotten trapped in the oven. These concerns have opened up further investigation and made this a possible homicide.
Gursimran and her mother had moved to Canada from India and worked at Walmart for about 2 years. Gursimran’s father and brother still lived in India at the time of the incident. After her death, a GoFundMe was started for the family as well as a petition for the father to get a Visa to be with his wife during their time of grief. This death is devastating to not only the family but also her community.
