Beetlejuice has been a stand-alone movie for years, and they just recently made a sequel. The movie has some good aspects, but for the most part, it is far outshined by its predecessor. The new movie sticks to the format of the original. There is another dimension, which is a spiritual realm. They never show a heaven or hell, but in this movie, they show a pit of fire, which could be an insinuation of hell, but they have never shown a “heaven.”. In the newest movie, they make fun of the Catholic faith by showing a priest as someone who drones on and on about nonsense that no one understands. The old movie showed no bias against religion, and this insulting depiction of religion displays the narrative and beliefs that new movies are starting to align with.
The best thing about the movie is how they build off the old world they set up from the original. They bring the world out of a little town and make the afterlife by adding a train for the dead and other little additions to make it look bigger. The old actors are a nice touch. The new actors—most of them are just put in there for no reason. Jenna Ortega was one of the new actors that aligned with the story. She looks like Winona Rider’s daughter.
The movie's comedy is unique from other forms of comedy in movies. Because of their world and the characters, they can go for a more old cartoon type of comedy. I've only seen something like it in the movie “The Mask." I love this classic comedy because it’s become rare in the industry and not many people use it anymore.
