━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Did you know that Powell High School has a school newspaper? Of course we do! What do you know about it? Most likely not much. Here are the basics. Our newspaper consists of a variety of students from all grades and backgrounds and of course our teacher Mr. Davis. We write articles, stories, voice our opinions, and have the time of our lives. Along with writing meaningful or sensitive articles, we also do some pretty odd stuff. So what happens behind the scenes? Take a look...

We write articles about news going on in our world, our opinions, and even do restaurant reviews. We’re not afraid to explore any subject. For example, in 2018, there was a former newspaper writer that wrote a fictional story about a teacher portraying violence to students during Halloween. There were some questionable things within this story that made some eyebrows rise. KCS saw the published story and thought that it would be best to take it down. Did we cross the line? That’s up for debate, but the fact is we are not afraid to write about what’s on (or in) our minds. When we write, we write it the way it is; no lies, no secrets, only our opinions and the straight truth. We are productive in class, but we also do some irregular things in class.

Of course, we are serious about the newspaper and get our work done, but what else? For this being an overall mature classroom, we still love a little crazy here and there. For example, we have breakfast days. These are days where everyone plans to bring a breakfast item, and as a class, we enjoy breakfast together. Last week, it was waffles, another week, it was donuts. Some may find this odd, and at first, I did too. After time, our teacher having two waffle makers and a large toaster oven in his classroom became the new normal. If you’re in the Newspaper you can also be rewarded with an amazing press pass. It gives you the privilege of leaving class to do things like research and take pictures. Another perk is getting into football games. If you are writing about that week’s game, you are permitted to get into the game free then go down and get good pictures and document the game...all from the sidelines. Another odd thing that occurs in the newsroom is the funny teaching moments. They consist mostly of Mr. Davis pointing at the board to the word, “THINK” telling us to use our minds. It might sound boring, but you have to be present to understand. As you can see, we aren’t a normal group, but we are an awesome, uniquely diverse group in every way. Our goal is to represent and make sure every student’s views are heard. If you ever have a topic you would like for us to discuss or if you would like to write something from your viewpoint, please let us know.
