Bulking is the typical term for gaining weight in the hope of gaining muscle. To gain any weight in the first place you have to eat more calories. You don't need to count calories, but you can if you want to. In the end, the difference is insignificant whether you count your calories or not.
Certainly, one method would be to just eat more, but doing that will lead people to overdo it. Yes, you need to eat more, but there will always be such a thing as too much. The best way to bulk is to eat daily balanced meals with calorie-dense foods. One easy method to keep from getting full as quickly is to cut your food into smaller, more palatable pieces. For example; instead of eating a whole steak, eat the same amount but chop it up into pieces beforehand.
The most important aspect of bulking is the training. If you don't train correctly, you’ll gain more fat than muscle. You will get much stronger at the start of the bulk due to the increased energy (calories). What you must do with that energy is train as hard as possible so that you will get as much out of it as you can. You should be able to increase the weight or reps a little every week. I would say train for 1 hour to an hour and a half.
After a bulk, some people do a “cut”. A cut is a term used to describe losing weight. Some people need to cut because they bulk way too fast and over eat. You don't need to cut super hard if you take your time with the bulk. That is the best thing about bulking; if you take your time and don't go too hard you won't need to cut and you will look two times bigger.
