The movie starts with another good song by Pharrell Williams and shows the new villain for this movie. The main villain in this movie is Maxime Le Mal. The reason that he is the villain now is because he had a childhood feud with Gru. The theme of this villain is cockroaches, which is a very odd theme, and in my opinion that just shows that they are running out of ideas.
One problem I have with this movie is that none of the adopted daughters have aged. Agnes (the youngest girl) had to be played by another voice actor because the voice actor aged out of the role. What they should establish is that characters in the movies should grow with the voice actors. This would give the movies, however long they go on, a good conclusion. Many TV shows have had great endings because they let the characters grow with the cast. One of the TV shows that did this was Steven Universe, in which the character Steven had to leave his family for college. This mirrored the age of the voice actor, which added a bit of realism to the show.
The other new addition to the movie was the Mega Minions. I think that was a cool experiment, but they did not use them enough in the main plot. All they did was go out to fight crime and show up briefly at the end when Gru fought the bad guy. I´d say the reason they put them in the movie was to make a joke about MARVEL superheroes and how their ¨timeline¨ is very confusing and mundane.
The end of the movie, in my opinion, was nice because it brought back all of the villains in the entire Despicable Me series in a little musical number. The song they sang was ¨Everybody Wants To Rule The World”, which is very fitting for their characters. All of this said the Despicable Me movies haven't gone downhill as other franchises that have had a lot of sequels. I give this movie a 7/10.
