I love all Thanksgiving foods, but one of my favorites has to be Southern Baked Macaroni and Cheese Casserole which my mamaw makes yearly. I love macaroni and cheese and this recipe takes it to the next level! The cheese and the seasonings all come together and taste amazing!

Baked Macaroni and Cheese Casserole:

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups uncooked elbow macaroni

  • 6 tbsp salted butter

  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour

  • 3 ½ cups half and half

  • 2 tsp seasoning salt

  • 1 tsp black pepper

  • 16 oz sharp cheddar cheese

  • 8 oz mozzarella cheese shredded

  • ½ cup Italian panko bread crumbs

Instructions:

  1. Bring some water to a boil, over high heat. Add the macaroni and cook until it is firm.

  2. Put the salted butter into a saucepan and melt over medium heat, once that is heated add the flour. Whisk that together. Add the cheddar cheese and make sure it is all mixed in. Sprinkle in the salt and pepper as well.

  3. Mix the cheese and the macaroni together. Fold the macaroni and cheese sauce until mixed well.

  4. Use a 9x13 bake dish, and lightly butter it.

  5. Add a layer of macaroni and cheese at the bottom of the dish, then top with a heavy layer of cheese, then repeat.

  6. Melt two tbsp of salted butter, and combine it with the bread crumbs. Top the macaroni with the crumbs, and bake in the oven at 350 for about 25-30 minutes.
