As we go into this holiday season, it would be fun to venture into the land of Festivus. Festivus is a fictional holiday that occurs on the 23rd of December created in the show Seinfeld. The holiday itself is meant to be an alternative to Christmas as it is normally a time of high pressure. Many elements in the show contribute to the holiday itself, such as the Festivus Pole. Normally Christmas has a tree decorated up and all but in the spirit of Festivus there is no tree, simply 1 singular pole to contrast the typical decorations. Next, there is the Airing of Grievances, in the show the characters all sit around a table sharing about all the people who have disappointed them in the past year. Lastly, the holiday also has a wrestling match at the end of the day in which they pin the head of the household. Often, ordinary events will occur throughout the day and are labeled as “Festivus Miracles.” This is originally supposed to be a made-up comedic day but many of the fans of the show Seinfeld celebrate. For all of those people who feel the pressures of Christmas and want to escape from that this holiday season, I truly encourage you to take on this hilarious holiday and embrace the Festivus spirit.
