Guide to Surviving the Holidays

By Sarah Hall

The holiday season is a warzone; holiday shopping, navigating family, staying sane, etc. You have to use all your strength to keep your sanity in check. Here is the guide to doing so.

Number 1: Go holiday shopping way in advance or online. Navigating stores during the month of December is a headache. There are so many people, gifts are scarce because so many people have bought them before you get there, and rushing to get something for everyone is very stressful. If you shop online and way in advance, you don't have to worry about all that, plus you can look to see who has the best prices.

Number 2: Decorate minimally. Only decorate the outside of your house and maybe a little tree on the inside. Nobody will see the inside of your house if you aren't hosting Christmas, that’s a whole different level of stress. If you only decorate the outside, people will think you are cheery and see the effort, while the inside is bare. If you want to look at something, decorate a tiny tree, that way it isn't stressful to put up or take down.

Number 3: Don’t show up to Christmas family dinner. Family is the most stressful of all. The craziness of all those people in a small room, plus it can be like a family reunion with a ton of drama. The whole ordeal is a warzone, so just don't show up, problem solved; no drama, no screaming kids, no fighting over the last cookie. There can't be stress around dinner if you don't show up.

In conclusion, if you don't want to have to deal with the stress and craziness of Christmas, just hide away and don't come out until it is over.
