━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Monday afternoon, September 28, 2022, a threat toward First Baptist Academy caused schools in the Powell community to go on a hard lockdown. Staff and students were quick to follow protocol during this situation. Students at First Baptist Academy went on a hard lockdown as well as surrounding schools as a precaution; These schools were Powell Elementary, Middle, and High School. During this hard lockdown, students and the facility remained within a locked classroom away from windows and doors. Students and teachers at the Powell Schools were not informed immediately that the threat was not at their school therefore many people felt anxious, not knowing what happened. After the lockdown, staff and students were informed that the threat was to First Baptist Academy. Joshua Zachery Stephens had made the threat, stating, “‘My three tours in war don't exclude domestic terrorism, you are sadly mistaken. You better take care of this before I do. This isn’t a kind reminder. If not, there will be headlines in the news. You better fix this or I will rip that school apart. Better fix it before I do.’” Stephens also told employees over the phone that he could see multiple employees and said he was “comfortable shooting from 300 yards away,” an incident report said. According to https://www.wvlt.tv, KCSO patrol units, detectives, and chiefs all were quick to respond to this situation. Stephens was arrested and charged with harassment. People in the Powell community responded to this threat by stating, “I know we want to do everything to protect our kids. It starts with us. I hope this gentleman gets the help he needs.” Knox County Sheriff's Office was quick to respond to this threat, ensuring the protection of students. Quick actions like these can help us be safe during situations like this.
