Hawaii

By Sarah Hall

When I think of the most beautiful place in the world, it would be Hawaii, at least that’s what I’d say before doing this series. Nevertheless, it is still high on the list of places with the most heavenly landscapes. It would be amazing to go and explore each island, although doing that would take more than one day.

The most exciting thing of the day would be going to Haleakala National Park. This is a strenuous, 11-mile hike that I’m not cut out for, but you can drive up to the top. Mount Haleakala is Maui’s highest dormant volcano that stretches beyond the clouds. I must do this very early in the morning so that I can see the sunrise over the clouds. The picture of this view is stunning and I would love to see it in person. This is a one-of-a-kind experience.

After seeing the sunrise on the top of the mountain, I would get breakfast at Russel’s. Their small restaurant focuses on healthy, fresh food with gluten-free and vegan options. Most of their hot food has tofu, but I would prefer something cold and fresh to start the morning, so I would get the loaded acai bowl. It contains a blended banana, acai, and coconut milk base, topped with gluten-free granola, banana, cacao nibs, shredded coconut, hemp seeds, and dried goji berries.

After my refreshing breakfast, I would head to one of Hawaii’s many black-sand beaches. Kiholo Bay is not popular for no reason other than it's not well known, this is a good thing though because it means it won't be crowded. Kiholo Bay is home to many turtles which is exciting to see on the beach but it is frowned upon in Hawaiian culture to touch the wildlife. Even so, it is still really cool to see, especially when the fish swim right up to you. This would make for a relaxing mid-morning activity.

I heard about Porky’s Kauai off TikTok, so I would stop there for lunch. They have raving reviews and are famous for their pulled pork. I would order the pineapple sausage; which includes their Hawaiian-style pork on-pork pineapple sausage, in a cheese bun, topped with grilled onions, pineapple, and a sweet and spicy sauce. This sounds amazing, the savory pork with a sweet and spicy sauce and the sugary pineapple sounds like a mouth-watering combination.

After lunch is the perfect time to go to the Waipi’o Valley Lookout. The sun would be high in the sky and beautiful to see the large coastline and seemingly endless ocean. At the lookout, there is also a steep staircase to the beach, but the view from the top is what I would be there for.

My trip to Hawaii would not be complete without going to a luau. The Old Lahaina Luau has a specific show called “Myths of Maui Luau” which is a buffet dinner and show. It would be interesting to see an expression of traditional Hawaiian culture through this performance as well as enjoying the sunset over the beach. I could not imagine a better way to end my day in Hawaii.

This is a jam-packed day, but if I really ever planned to go to Hawaii, I could never just spend one day there. I would take the time to explore each of the 8 main islands in Hawaii. There are so many gorgeous sights and things to experience, I don’t think I could ever get enough of Hawaii.
