Your Lady Vols Soccer Team has been ranked #11 nationally in the U.S preseason poll, but how did this team come to be this good? The University of Tennessee started sponsoring the team in 1996, the head coach being Charlie MacCabe. The coach changed to All-American coach Angela Kelly from North Carolina Tar who led the ladies to four SEC Tournament Championships and the NCAA tournament eight times. She went 160-84-20 as the head coach at the University of Tennessee, and from 2003-2005 she was SEC coach of the year. In 2011 she took a coaching position at the University of Texas and led Texas to an 8-10-2 record in 2012. Shortly after, head coach Brian Pensky joined the Volunteers, he led them to an SEC tournament title in 2021, but sadly he left in April 2022 to take the head coach position at Florida State University. Joe Kirt was formally assumed the head coaching position on May 2, 2022, but Joe has always been a part of the Lady Vols. He was on the sidelines as the assistant coach when he helped lead them to two SEC Tournament Championships, two SEC Eastern Division Championships, and seven NCAA Tournament appearances. Fall of 2021, the ladies soccer team reached its highest NSCAA ranking in the program's history reaching #6 in the polls. The Vols kicked off their preseason with a 3-0 win over Notre Dame, and they are determined to do more than succeed this season.
