Homecoming is when a school community comes together to celebrate its heritage, raise money, and show pride in its school. Powell High School is known for its football team and band, who work hard to make every game a perfect high school experience. With October approaching and fall getting closer, it is the time of year when PHS celebrates people and their philanthropy for the school. Homecoming works as the fundraising candidates will start their campaign as soon as school starts, and by the end of the campaign period, the candidate with the most money raised gets crowned homecoming king or queen. Along with raising money, the candidates also go through a ceremony during halftime at the homecoming game. This ceremony consists of all the candidates dressing in formal dresses and suits, walking down the field with their date, and then they are rewarded with their title of king or queen. The following day, after the game, there is a homecoming dance, which allows all students from the school to dress up and have a fun night to show school pride and enjoy time with their friends. This time of year represents how a community can come together for a cause and enjoy time together. Whether you are involved in the Friday night lights or the Saturday dance to show off some moves, school pride is encouraged, welcomed, and appreciated!
