Hurricane Nicole was the fourteenth named storm and the eighth hurricane of the 2022 Atlantic hurricane season. Nicole made landfall on November 9, in Great Abaco and Grand Bahama in the Bahamas, where it strengthened into a category 1 hurricane. On November 10, Nicole made landfall twice in Florida, first south of Vero Beach and then the last northwest of Cedar Key, after quickly emerging over the Gulf of Mexico. Along with this storm came rain, winds, and beach erosion after the hurricane. Although Nicole was only a category one, St. Johns County officials are reporting an estimated 34 million dollars in damage caused. The damages include, dunes washed away, and roads washed out with beachfront homes. The St. Johns County officials said on Tuesday that there’s still work to be done to measure the true impact of Nicole, especially after Ian. Eleven deaths have been connected to the storm, six in the Dominican Republic and five in Florida. Included in the eleven deaths were a couple who died from being electrocuted by a fallen power line. Towns affected by this hurricane continue to recover, especially those hit by Hurricane Ian in late September 2022.
