In 1996 human remains were found at Herbert Baumeister’s property. Baumeister was the typical businessman, one you wouldn’t suspect could commit a crime this big. He lived with his wife and 15-year-old son in Westfield, Indiana when one day his son happened upon a human skull, he immediately told his mom and she confronted him about the discovery. He explained that it was from his father’s old medical practice and unfortunately, she believed him for a while until things started to be suspicious. Eventually, more bodies were found and an investigation started which caused his wife to file for divorce. Around 10,000 pieces of human bodies were found burned and charred on the property. Later on in the investigation, it was found that Baumeister would lure gay men away from bars back to his house so that he could kill and dispose of their bodies on his property. He kept doing this throughout the 80s and it is believed that around 25 bodies were found. Fleeing the news he went to Canada and committed suicide in the Toronto area. DNA specialists are still to this day trying to name the bodies of the victims with 4 still unidentified because they were killed and disposed of in such a brutal way.
