Social media is a major part of people's lives. Some believe that social media is awful because it is tearing people apart; others think that it is helpful. How can you know whether social media is good or bad if everyone has different opinions? For starters, the internet has a variety of apps that let you connect with your friends and the rest of the world. It may be an app where you can create content like videos and polls or an app to post pictures of yourself and your friends. Most social media platforms allow a private account or to not be bothered by those you don't follow. This is good for those who still want to experience the fun of social media without being publicly exposed to it. Social media has good and bad aspects, which is why it is hard to determine whether it is beneficial or damaging.
Personally, social media has helped me get to know new people I am going to school with or on sports teams around my town. I've been introduced to new products and trends, along with news about things I would have never looked up or thought to check up on. I have also been able to keep up with my friends and their lives. At some point, it felt like I had to post weekly or acknowledge what someone said about my posts. When you sit down and explain social media, it is nothing like what you would expect from reading about it.
However, there is a dark side to social media, like cyberbullying, rude comments, negative perspectives on people, and dangerous people who aim to take advantage of overly trusting children. This is where we must be careful and aware of our online exposure. Remember - social media can be fun, but it can also be scary.
