On Thursday, November 14, 2024, the Jostens Regional Conference was held in Dallas, GA. The theme was “Better Than Good." Schools from various states came together and brought new ideas from their schools to light. It wasn't just about bringing ideas together; it was also an event where we all got to know one another. The conference’s guest speaker was Keith Hawkins. He gave an amazing speech about his personal life, and I was touched by what he said and felt similar feelings to his story. Many took the trip as a trip to get out of school, but I took it not only as a trip out of school but as a trip for a change in life. Needless to say, my expectations were met on this trip. I feel like a new person. A person who doesn't let embarrassment cross their mind or keep them from doing things they wouldn't do in front of a large group of people. Jostens does a regional conference in many different states, and they do things like motivate students. Dr. Phil Campbell is an ambassador for Jostens Renaissance. He is known to his students as PC. PC is a veteran educator, and his passion is creating an amazing relationship with students that he meets at the conferences. He understands his students and takes time to connect with every student. He doesn't just inspire students; he inspires educators to influence students to bring better light into schools.
My favorite part of this conference was being able to split up and talk to many other students and ask them what they do differently at their schools. I also liked pushing myself to talk to people I didn't know and splitting into groups within our school. We wrote about what we do as a school. That was also a great thing because along the trip there were many people in my group that I didn't know but became friends with. Also, I enjoyed getting on stage and dancing with students from other schools because they showed me that there is no reason to be shy or afraid of being on stage with others in front of hundreds of people. And the last thing we were told was that when the teachers started walking back into the room, we needed to cheer for them and everything they had done for us! Remember, if someone asks you how you are doing, don't respond with I am doing good; respond with "Better Than Good.".
