On November 15, 2022, a missile landed outside the rural Polish village of Przewodow, about four miles west of the Ukrainian border. This incident occurred at roughly the same time Russia launched its biggest wave of missile attacks on Ukrainian cities in more than a month. NATO members immediately began reviewing the evidence soon after the explosion. NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) is an alliance involving many countries. The United States assessments suggest the missile was fired by Ukrainian forces to stop an incoming Russian missile. With Poland being a part of the alliance, this could have heavy consequences for other members if it is confirmed that the missile was sent by Russia. Russian specialists also studied photographs of the explosion in Poland and concluded rocket fragments were from an S-300 surface-to-air Russian-made missile system. Both Ukraine and Russia have used these types of missiles. Two Polish citizens were killed in this incident along with significant damage to the village. During a broadcast regarding this incident, Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said, “I do not doubt that it was not our missile or our missile strike.” Later in the broadcast, he stated, “I want us to be fair, and if it was the use of our air defense, then I want that evidence." Currently, this is considered an accident, but if Ukraine discovers that it was intentional, this will lead to many more countries joining this conflict. The investigation continues and more evidence is found and reviewed.
