Monkey Day

Rebekah Dunlap

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Most people know monkeys as creatures that swing on trees and have long tails, but sadly don’t have them in the wild in America. In Thailand, they are in the wild and the people in a particular city do something special for the wild monkeys they see often. In Thailand, they have an annual feast festival but not for the people. They wake up and start setting up monkey statues and pouring out giant bags of bananas, rice, fruit, and vegetables. Soon, the monkeys start coming in, fighting for more food, hoping for a bite or two. They go all over the place climbing trees and people trying to find more food, and if they do find some more on a statue they sit politely and eat their little hearts away. The city is having the feast to promote tourism and help people and monkeys live in harmony. One of the people in charge of the feast said that when they started they had around 300 monkeys and now they have over 4,000 monkeys. The tourists and the residents love the feast and I think the monkeys do too.
