Monkeypox is a disease; though rare, it may become a big problem. The CDC states that symptoms are very similar to the symptoms of smallpox, not related to chickenpox. It was discovered in 1958, when the disease began to spread in colonies of monkeys used for research. Though the first human case of Monkeypox was in 1970, it has primarily stayed in areas in Africa. People with Monkeypox will most likely have a rash near the genitals or other areas such as the hands, feet, face, or mouth. The rash may be mistaken for pimples or blisters and can be painful or itchy. Other symptoms that may occur are fevers, swollen lymph nodes, headache, muscle aches, exhaustion, chills, or respiratory symptoms. This disease will last two to four weeks and can spread through physical contact with someone who has it. Avoid coming into contact with anyone who has the disease, and wash your hands frequently. Monkeypox could become a serious matter and should be handled as one. In the United States, there have been around a total of 11,850 cases, according to the CDC website. States with higher populations are more prone to the spread, including states like New York with 2,370 cases; and California with 1,940 cases. Though this disease has not been a problem for a long time, it might become an issue.
