Morning Traffic On Emory Road

By: Breanna Naysmith

Approximately 920 cars and buses use Emory Road to get to school and work in the morning. The traffic entering the middle and high school is always packed and takes excessive time to get through, especially at the middle school car rider entrance. The traffic is always backed up to the light at the Clinton Highway and Emory Road intersection. The traffic moves so slow and is extremely hard to get through. Usually, I’ll be in line waiting to pass the middle school and just sitting still, not moving. The other morning it took me 10 minutes to get from the light to just past the middle school. At the high school, the buses and cars enter at the same entrance; it is always difficult for the buses and cars to get in smoothly and conveniently. School access in the mornings is definitely a problem and I would never speak up about a problem without a valid solution in mind.

A great solution to this problem would be to add a traffic conductor to allow traffic to pass

quickly and orderly. Three traffic conductors, two by the high school, one at the entrance where buses and cars enter and the other at the exit where busses and cars leave. We already have one at the exit of the high school but she is only there until 8:15 in the morning and most students don’t arrive at school until about 8:20-8:25. The third conductor should be placed by the middle school car entrance. This would help the traffic run smoother and potentially help others from being tardy to their classes. Another outcome could be more students could get the free breakfast

provided by the school. Some buses do not get to school until 8:23, and if breakfast ends at 8:20 the students could be going without breakfast. If congestion from the traffic was relieved, buses could arrive at school earlier causing more students to be able to get to school earlier and enjoy breakfast.
