My Dream Christmas

By Sophie Planos

If you could travel back in time or into the future, what would be your perfect Christmas experience and why? I would choose to revisit the Christmas season when I was around six years old. That was undoubtedly the best time of my life. My mind was filled with thoughts of Santa and the magic of the holiday. Life was carefree, without the responsibilities and stresses that come with growing up. I would relish the simple joys of finding my elf on the shelf each morning, baking cookies with my sister, and wondering what presents lay hidden in my mom's closet. Those were the days when my only concern was whether my mom would discover the mess I had shoved under my bed. I could do that as quickly as Santa would come down the chimney. I long to recapture that innocent, worry-free mindset - a time before I fully understood the true demands and complexities of the Christmas season.

As a high school senior, I now face the daunting decision of choosing a college, or whether to forgo higher education altogether. The prospect of abruptly becoming an adult is overwhelming - how am I supposed to manage the financial responsibilities of bills, part-time work, and holiday gifts, when I'm not even 18 yet? At the time, I eagerly yearned to grow up, but now I want to return to those simpler days.

However, I'm grateful for the sweet memories from that period of my life. Growing up has made me realize the importance of savoring these fleeting moments, which I will hold onto forever. The transition to adulthood is proving more challenging than I anticipated, but I'm learning to navigate this new chapter with maturity and appreciation for the journey.
