On February 24, 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine, a significant escalation in the Russo-Ukrainian War occurring since 2014. At the start of these attacks, many people were talking about this war, but now the conversation has died down and the attacks continue. Beginning in September 2022 Russia began using “kamikaze” drones, which are believed to be of the same type as Shahed-136 drones, in the town of Bila Tserkva, which is 50 miles south of the Capital. Kamikaze drones carry explosives, and can be equipped with a small warhead which makes them precise and effective. They gained their name “Kamikaze” because of how they destroy their targets by crashing directly into them. Ukraine has accused Russia of the drones being Iran-Made but Russia has denied it. On October 17, 2022, the drones moved into Kyiv (the Capital), where they caused 5 explosions, one of them being in the central district. In the residential building that was hit, 19 people were rescued, 4 were confirmed dead, and among the dead were a man and his pregnant wife. Russia has turned to these drone attacks due to having setbacks on the ground. This is not the only attack that was made against Ukraine, the drone attacks continue throughout the country, where they target civilian buildings. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said regarding these attacks, “All night and all morning, the enemy terrorizes the civilian population."
