New Orleans, Louisiana

By Sarah Hall

New Orleans is a must-stop on my world tour, not only for the distinctive music, but also the amazing cuisine, rich history, beautiful architecture, and vibrant nightlife. If I only had one day in New Orleans, here are my must-dos…

Starting with breakfast at The Vintage, where they are known for their beignets. I would order the Fancy Beignet Flight so I could try 3 different flavors and a coffee made with their vintage espresso, that has hints of caramel, toffee, darker red fruits, and bittersweet cacao.

After breakfast, the first activity of the day would be the Large Airboat Swamp Tour. Traveling at high speed and stopping to see beautiful sights and wildlife. On this tour, they let you hold a baby alligator.

By the time the tour is over and you make it back to land, it’s time for lunch. Stopping at Loretta’s Authentic Pralines is a must. I would order the Barbeque Chicken Beignet and a cup of Seafood Gumbo.

After lunch, it would be time to walk around and explore. The French Quarter; including, Bourbon Street and Jackson Square are the most interesting places to walk. New Orleans is known for its architecture and its history. You could walk around all day and still have stuff to find. For dinner, I’d stop at Oceana, an American-style bar. As an appetizer, it's a must to order the Gator Tails. For the Main course, the Mardi Gras Pasta, and for dessert, the Chocolate Kahlua Mousse.

After dinner, I would go to the late-night Frenchmen Art Bazaar. It’s a local art market that you can stroll through and buy original and handmade artwork. There is a good atmosphere and music and that's how I’d want to end my day in New Orleans.
