Portland, Oregon

By Sarah Hall

Oregon is one of those states I never considered visiting before; however, after researching, I had to add it to my list. They have the most beautiful sights and are known for their mountains, coast, and overall greenery. This would be the perfect place to spend time in nature and have a relaxed day.

My day would start with breakfast at the Tin Shed Garden Cafe. It is an American-style cafe owned by female veterans. It is dog-friendly, so I could bring my dog along if I wanted to. They also have a breakfast called the “Good Dog” which sounds amazing. It consists of pork sausage, jalapeno, bell pepper, onion, scrambled eggs, Tillamook sharp cheddar cheese, salsa fresca, and chipotle aioli all over potato cakes and served with a buttermilk biscuit.

Sticking with a peaceful morning, I would go to the Portland Japanese Garden. At the garden, visitors can experience authentic Japanese culture; including the garden, architecture, arts, music, practices, and cuisine at the Umami Cafe. You can experience their Tokyo-style tea sets at the Cafe, including Japanese tea and local confections. They also offer savory soup options. The garden and cafe are tranquil and would provide a relaxing morning activity.
