The Lady Panthers soccer team's season is off to a great start with a standing record of 5-1. They have defeated Anderson County, Jefferson County, Science Hill, Lakeway, and Catholic—scoring 25 goals in total. The sheer determination of the girls is evident in the way they play, constantly communicating and uplifting one another. Though all the players have demonstrated incredible talent, top scorers include: Sifa Morgan and Avery Smith (several of these goals being assisted by Anna Sanchez). This year's team is coached by Jessica Cable and Bailey Williams. The team's captains include Royce Russel and Abigail Reiche.
What is Different about this Season: This season the Panthers have welcomed a foreign exchange student named Mafe (Ma-fae) to the team. Mafe is from Brazil. Though she has never before played soccer, she was a skilled handball player back home with her main position being goalkeeper. Mafe has not yet been put in, but she is expected to get playing time soon. On behalf of the Powell community, we can not wait to see what she has in store.
Remaining Games: The season will continue all the way into October. Highly anticipated games include Powell v.s. Central (September 12th) and Powell v.s. Oak Ridge (September 24th). These district games are expected to be intense, playing a direct role in the season's outcome.
