On 8/19/22 Powell traveled to Anderson County for their first game of the 2022 season. The anticipation of the season opener was enormous and you could feel all the emotions as the game started. During the first quarter Jordyn Potts suffered a injury. He went back on the field for one play after getting hurt then we didnt see him the rest of the night. Sophomore Dylan Stooksbury took Potts position as the quarterback. The sophomore did good completing a pass to Ayden Green for a touchdown. Powell did good, but it wasnt enough to keep Anderson County from scoring and staying in the lead. At halftime the score was 27-7 and the game started to look one sided, but we have seen Powell in these situations before and Powell Nation kept the faith.
In the third quarter both Powell and Anderson County scored another touchdown making the score 34-14. Powell struggled all night with keeping Anderson County from scoring. As the fourth quarter began you could see Panther faces getting worried and the players looked exhausted. Anderson County put up two more touchdowns making the final score 48-14.
This game was not the outcome Powell had hoped for and it makes you think what adjustments will they have to make for Maryville next week. This Thursday Powell and Maryville will match up at Powell. We’ll see if the needed adjustments fix the problems.
