My great-grandma’s recipe for chocolate pie, which has become a tradition to make every Thanksgiving or Christmas.
Ingredients:
1 cup sugar, plus 2 tbsp
⅓ cup cocoa powder
4 tbsp flour
2 cups milk
2 egg yolks, reserve whites
1 tsp vanilla extract, plus ½ tsp
1 dash salt
1 9in. deep dish pie crust (pre-baked)
Instructions:
To a saucepan add 1 cup of sugar, the cocoa powder, flour, and salt. Mix well. Then add the egg yolks and milk. Stir over medium heat until thickened. Remove from heat and add vanilla extract (1 tsp). Pour pie filling into pie shell and set aside. In a separate bowl beat egg white with 2 tbsp sugar and ½ tsp vanilla extract until stiff peaks form. Top pie with beaten egg whites and bake in the oven for 25 minutes or until meringue is golden brown. Cool before slicing.
