Student Work Loads

Most students hate school, it’s a universal thing. The question is why? Why is school seen as such a negative thing nowadays? School is viewed that way because most teachers don’t give work to teach anymore, it’s just to keep you busy. On top of that, they give way too much work. What does this mean for students’ lives?

Most students start their days about 6:00 or 7:00 in the morning just to catch the bus. School lasts about 7 hours, so that’s already over a fourth of our day. After that most students either have extracurricular activities or sports, maybe even both. That’s about 1 to 2 hours of more work. After those are over, we finally get home at about 6:00. Teachers encourage students to have family dinner, so you do. That takes about an hour. By this time, it’s pushing 7:00 at night, now you have chores to do; that takes an hour. It’s 8:00, now you have homework. If you’re in honors classes, homework and studying for exams can take 1 to 2 hours. Now it’s 10:00. By then you now have to shower and get ready for bed which will take up to an hour. If you want to get a good chunk of sleep, now would be a good time to sleep. Eight hours of sleep is what is recommended, but you can only get seven. It’s 6:00 in the morning again and you repeat. When did you have time for yourself? Time to reflect? Where is the free time to have a social life? The answer is that we don’t get it. With the workload put on us, we have zero time to spend on ourselves. That is the biggest flaw of school. High school is supposed to be the time where you are trying to find yourself, but what time do we have to actually do that?
