Teacher Spotlight: Mr. Bonewitz

By: Anna Dunlap

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

I interviewed Mr. Bonewitz. He teaches English and Painting classes here at Powell. He started teaching at Powell in 2011. He says his favorite part about teaching has always been the students. He has a younger brother named Luke. He said, “My younger brother, Luke, is a super cool guy, and we love to talk and hang out over the holidays. Unfortunately, his Army life is extremely hectic (he just moved to El Salvador), and so is mine, so we don't keep up as much as we used to. He will always be one of my good friends, even if we don't talk very often.” He said his best friends consist of a person who he worked with during college and his neighbor, who he walks dogs with. Some of his favorite activities in his free time are running, reading books, walking his dog Malcolm, listening to podcasts, and visiting art museums. He also likes to travel, hike, and camp when he gets the chance. Five words he would use to describe himself are introverted, runner, reader, thoughtful, and athletic. Something that has greatly influenced his life was going to college, which allowed him to become a teacher. Some of his biggest inspirations are Mark Twain and Bob Dylan. He is a great teacher and I would definitely recommend taking a class with him.
