Off the back of a 35-21 win over the Anderson County Mavericks, the Panthers go on the road for the first time this season, traveling to Eddie Courtney Stadium to take on the 1-0 Admirals of Farragut, fresh off a 24-17 victory over the Indians of Dobyns-Bennett. Powell’s elite defense will be a huge factor in the game their main goal being to stop the Admirals' air attack. X-factor Connor Wheeler will again have to make a huge contribution to keep the Panthers Undefeated. Sophomore QB Deuce Rodgers will have to perform better through the air to keep the offense 2-dimensional.
Matchup History:
The Panthers will take on the Admirals for the 5th time Friday dropping the last matchup 55-6. Out of the previous 4 meetings, the Admirals have won 3. Powell will look to avenge those losses as they attempt to stay undefeated.
What To Expect:
Last week's win over the Mavericks illustrated the Panthers' potential on the defensive side of the ball. Their pass defense will have to step up to stop the Admirals' high-powered air attack. Senior QB Cam Duncan threw 10-15 for 169 yds and 2 TD, last week against Dobyns-Bennett. If Farragut looks to stay in the win collum they will have to be better running the football. As always Panther RB Connor Wheeler was electric against the Mavericks and he should be ready for another huge role in the contest against the Admirals.
Impact Players:
Powell:
Sophomore QB Duece Rodgers will need to be careful putting the ball in the air, the Admiral defense picked off Dobyns-Bennett two times last week. In order to keep defenses off balance the Panthers passing attack must adapt and improve.
Farragut:
Senior QB Cam Duncan will look to have another great game following his elite performance against Dobbyns-Bennett in which he had a passer rating of 144.2.
Senior standout WR Landis Davila will look to have another productive day after hauling in 4 receptions for 63 yards and a touchdown, averaging nearly 16 yards per reception
Prediction:
The Admirals will likely keep the ball in the hands of their receivers in an effort to keep the ball in the air, however they will need to be wary of the Panthers secondary and most of all their elite pass rush. Powell will have to get better throwing the ball, and keep the defence guessing but the Admiral secondary will have certainly have their say in the matter. Overall, both teams can get hot but the Panthers will likely be favored to take home the win catapaulting them to 2-0 to start the season.
