The Powell Panthers Take On The Oak Ridge Wildcats

Aiden Gallagher

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

The Powell Panthers took their first loss of the season last week to the Farragut Admirals 28-21 and look to get back in the win collum this week against Oak Ridge. The Wildcats are coming off a win over the Jefferson County Patriots, taking them down 30-13. Powell comes into the game ranked 21st in the state, while Oak Ridge comes in at 62nd.

Matchup History:

The Panthers and Oak Ridge will meet for the 14th time Thursday night with the Wildcats leading the series 7-6. Last season the Panthers took down Oak Ridge 43-13.

What To Expect:

If Oak Ridge wants any chance of walking away with a win, they will have to find a way to limit Connor Wheeler's production. The Elite RB had another electric performance last week carrying the ball 8 times for 166 yards and 2 TD’s The Oak Ridge offense is capable of running up the score against Powell, so the Panther defense will have to be ready for a big play all night. Both teams possess the ability to lock teams down - specifically the Panthers' pass rush. Senior DE Steven Soles has terrorized backfields all season long and Thursday night will be no different.

Prediction:

Oak Ridge will have to have a great game on offense their yards per play was among the highest in the state last week. The Panther's defense will have to be better at stopping the run, they allowed nearly 200 rushing yards against Farragut last week. Overall I expect the Panthers to bounce back moving back above 500 and moving to 2-1 while the Wildcats drop to 1-1.
