Imagine experiencing the worst day of your life because of unimaginable circumstances that no one deserves to go through, that’s what happened to Megan Drye.
When water levels started rising and the house was flooding, Megan, her parents, and her seven-year-old son Micah climbed onto the roof of their home. Avoiding the strong current within the waters, they called 911 and waited to be rescued. They sat and waited to be rescued although they knew it would take a while because they weren't the only ones in need of rescue. They watched trees and 18-wheelers float by and prayed.
Unfortunately, their prayers were not answered. The roof collapsed underneath them, washing them away in the flood. Megan’s parents and son were taken under the turbulent waters and died, while Megan was trapped in debris with her head above the water. Stuck for over an hour she had to wait for someone to rescue her. Megan got lucky, or maybe not having to watch as the unforgiving waters took the lives of those she loved the most.
Megan is currently in the hospital in critical condition. Her sister Jessica Turner made a Facebook post about the heartbreaking event her family went through. She said “I cannot convey in words the sorrow, heartbreak, and devastation my sister and I are going through nor imagine the pain before us. Please lift my sister who lost her son up in prayers and my other sister and myself as we come together to somehow comfort her and get through each moment banded together.”
A GoFundMe has been set up to help the Drye Sisters, but nothing can fix the heartbreak of losing her son and parents. Hurricane Helene has caused so much death and destruction that is irreparable.
