Most people know trick or treating as a fun activity to do throughout neighborhoods at night; however, here at Powell High School we do it a little differently. On the last school day on or before Halloween we students go through the halls and the teachers hand out candy.
This year we are trick or treating during 30 in third and for the entire time, we will be going to all the teacher’s rooms and getting candy. We will be able to hang out with our friends and just have fun while Halloween themed music plays over the intercom.
Some teachers go all out and decorate their rooms, put blow-up characters up, and dress up. On this day students are allowed to dress up as long as they fill out a form. Normally students collect a lot of candy and have a great time.
Our principal, Dr. Chad Smith, is to thank for this tradition. He began this tradition 6 years ago in order to give the students something fun to do and look forward to every year. He is not the only one who contributes to this, each teacher purchases 25-30 dollars worth of candy using their own out-of-pocket money. This is a great thing that the PHS student body can look forward to each year and hopefully this tradition can continue.
