Virginia Shooting

Jaiden Hemphill-Kron

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

On Sunday, November 12th the University of Virginia students were returning from watching a play in Washington D.C. During the trip former UVA football player Christopher Darnell Jones Jr. shot and killed three players. These players consisted of receiver Lavel Davis Jr., receiver Devin Chandler, and defensive end/linebacker D’Sean Perry. A student on the bus said that Darnell “pushed Lavel, then said that the players are always messing with him.” It is sad if that is true that the players were bullying him. Still, there is no reason for violence, especially at the level of 2nd-degree murder. It was stated that Darnell shot Chandler while he was sleeping. After the first shot, the other shots let off killing the other two players; he “skipped off the bus” and ran. In one of his court hearings, we learned Darnell does have a record of reckless driving and weapon charges in 2021. As of right now, Darnell is facing three charges of 2nd-degree murder and two counts of malicious wounding because of running back Mike Hollins and student Marlee Morgan. Hollins is now out of the hospital and back with his family and nothing has been heard yet about Morgan. I think when you look at a story like this it should show everyone why it's so important to have someone to talk to if something is going on that nobody knows about. Many people have shown support such as many college teams by putting a sticker of the UVA logo on the back of their helmets to show they are with them through this hard time.
