The teacher/student relationship is a very important part of our education. Too often each side thinks the other should be the one to change. Teachers think students should conform to the way they teach, because after all they know everything and have been teaching forever. On the other hand, there are students who think teachers are mean, self absorbed, and idiotic. The fact is, we need each other and should meet in the middle. So I thought I would suggest some changes to each side.
Firstly, everybody has their own opinion about what makes a good teacher. In my opinion, the best characteristics to see in a teacher are kindness, helpfulness, patience, good communication, preparation, good work ethic, and last but not least good listening skills. I know many students who do not like their teachers because they either give too much homework or classwork, they are not nice, or they just don’t like them. I think we should give our teachers a chance even if they aren’t the way we want them to be, because they come to work just to help us succeed and guide us towards our careers. This is my opinion of what makes a good teacher, but what can make a good student?
Teachers love their students, but sometimes there comes a point where they can’t handle some of them. We all know there’s always at least one student who causes trouble in every class. So what can we as students do to meet our teachers in the middle? I think we should never give up, always try our best, do our work, ask questions whenever we have one, be respectful to our teachers and classmates, do what the teacher tells us to do, follow directions, and clean up any mess we make. By doing these things we can help the teachers concentrate more and hopefully to be in better moods.
Will this ever happen? Who knows, but it would be nice for both sides to try it and see how it goes. It will definitely take effort from everyone. So effort from both sides is the answer to this daily test.
