Why Is Football 'More Important' Than Other Sports?

By: Ella Smith

When kids go into high school, what’s one thing most kids are excited about? The Friday night football games. The student section getting everyone’s adrenaline pumped up, the football players pumping up the crowd and everyone going crazy, the band playing at halftime, and seeing all your friends and having a good time with them. All this happens at football games, but why doesn’t it happen at other sporting events? Why does football get all the attention and more funds than other sports? Why don’t other teams get pep rallies? Is it because they are “better” than all the other sports? Is it because they win a lot? Other kids put so much money, time, and effort into the sports that they play, and then they don’t get the recognition that they deserve. Just because football can be more exciting, doesn’t mean that it should get all of the recognition that it gets. Other sports like baseball, soccer, volleyball and so many others can be exciting too. It can be fun if the students put more effort and time into those sports and the teams. Students need support from peers when they're playing because it helps improve their performance. If no one comes to the games then the players won’t have that support system from their peers. If the students don’t know what’s going on, then that’s on the school. The school tells the students what times games are and when so why don’t the students listen? If they wanted to support their friends, they would come to their games more and cheer them on. People need to realize that there are many other sports than just football and they should get recognition and support too.
