World Cup Fanatic

Giselle Cruz Cardoza

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

The FIFA World Cup; one of the biggest sporting events on earth, will begin in about a month, ending the anxious four-year wait. Millions of people travel to support their country, and millions more watch their teams compete for the Golden Cup on television. 32 qualifying countries eliminate each other until the grand finale arrives. The fans of this tournament are the most prestigious people, including myself, have seen. Due to the strong ties that exist between soccer and each nation, the World Cup has a special ability to unite the world. Fans wear their team jerseys, paint their faces, wear cultural-related hats or scarves, wave flags, and even light fireworks. Like at any other sporting event, fan waves occur, and even chants. These chants can be as short as a phrase or as long as a song. Imagine tens of thousands of people singing, swaying, and cheering throughout the entire stadium. The enthusiasm for this game is incredibly beautiful. You won't regret watching your home country play, even if soccer isn't something you are used to.
