World Series: 2022

Jaiden Hemphill-Kron

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

The World Series is the best time for baseball. The best teams play each other in a best-of-seven matchup, going back and forth from city to city. This year's World Series pitted Bryce Harper and the Philadelphia Phillies against Jose Altuve and the Houston Astros. On Friday, October 28th, the first game was played, and the Astros got a 5-0 lead on the Phillies, but Philadelphia still came back and won that game 6-5. This has been a very intense and high-scoring series so far. Coming off the loss, the Astros beat the Phillies in game two, tying it up at one game apiece. Both teams then traveled to Philadelphia to play on November 1st. This game was exciting and showed how baseball is a 'big mind' game. The Phillies took the lead early when Bryce Harper hit a two-run home run in the first inning. During that at-bat for Bryce Harper, he noticed the Astros pitcher was tipping his pitch. When a pitcher tips his pitch, it means he does something different depending on what he throws. In this case, Lance McCullers Jr. would have his hand and glove placement differ for each pitch he threw. Before Alec Bohm’s at-bat, Harper called him over, and it appeared he told him about Lance tipping his pitches because at bat Bohm hit a home run on the first pitch. McCullers gave up five home runs, two of them back-to-back, in the bottom of the fifth before being taken out. The Phillies took game three and took the lead 2-1, but the Astros won games four and five, and they now have the lead 3-2. The Phillies traveled back to Houston for game 6 where they needed a win to stay in it. It was 0-0 until the top of the 6th inning when Kyle Schwarber hit a solo home run to give Phillie the lead. With runners on first and third and a new pitcher for the Phillies Yordan Alvarez hit a 3-run home run for the lead. During this game, we didn't see much for the Phillies' offense. The Astros pitchers shut the Phillies out and with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, Nick Castellanos hit a fly ball to right field in the foul territory where Kyle Tucker caught it for the final out. The final score for game 6 was 4-1 and the Astros win the world series for the second time in six years.
